Welcome to the 10th in our series of 12 tutorials on creating and managing items in the Local Item Editor. In this tutorial, you will learn how to create a “Drag and Drop” Item in IO Assessment.
Let’s get started!
Drag and Drop Item (Online Only)
Choose Drag and Drop from the list of Item Types and complete the Item Information and Item Standards (see Test Item Creation Part 1 - Navigating the Item Editor)
The first step in creating a “Drag and Drop” item is to create any graphics that you will need. You can use any program that allows you to create graphics as long as you can export to one of the following file formats: PNG, JPEG, TIFF, or GIF.
Click in the Stem / Prompt section and start typing, use the toolbar to add styling, images, tables, equations, etc . . .
Add Draggable Area
In the stem/prompt area insert your cursor where you would like to add the Draggable Area and click the “Drag and Drop Area” button.
You can add a background image for your “Drag and Drop Area”:
» Click “Select File”, browse for your file
» Click “OK”
Or you can use the default drag and drop (hot spot) placeholder by clicking “OK”.
In this example, we added a number line for our background image.
NOTE: If you don’t see the “+ Add Object” button, this means you have not added the draggable area yet.
Add Draggable Objects
To add draggable objects:
» Click “+ Add Object”
» Click “Select” and browse for your image
» Click “Insert”
This example shows that 3 draggable objects have been added.
NOTE: Be sure to add the objects in the order you want them to appear. You cannot change the order later.
Draw Zones
The next step is to draw zones for your objects to be dropped into.
» Click “Draw Zone” then position your mouse where you want the zone to start click and drag the mouse to make your first zone. Your zone will be surrounded by a dark blue border.
NOTE: To remove a zone click the “Remove Zone” button and then click directly on the zone you want to remove. If you want to remove ALL zones click the “Clear Zones” button.
Drag Objects
Now we need to drag our objects into their correct zones so that EADMS knows how to score this item.
» Click “Drag Object” then click and drag the object to its correct zone.
NOTE: To remove an object click the “Remove Object” button and then click directly on the object you want to remove. If you want to remove ALL objects click the “Clear Objects” button.
Rubrics
Before you can save your item you must add a Rubric, click “Edit”.
Only the “Simple” Rubric is available for this item type.
Choose your Bubble Group (for points possible) and Add Columns (for different traits or facets), all columns will be the same Bubble Group and adding columns does not change the points possible.
Scoring
After saving your rubric another area will appear on your item where you can adjust the scoring if you choose
Adding Tools
To add a tool to your item, click on the appropriate tool icon in the top right corner.
Click the “Preview” icon to view, resize, and rotate the tool (resize and rotate only apply to the ruler and protractor)
