Recommended Scanners
Although many scanners will work with IO Education’s IO Scan software, here are the models we know and have been tested to work:
Fujitsu scanners are a little more expensive but they tend to be high-performing.
• Fujitsu fi-7160
• Fujitsu fi-6130z
• Fujitsu fi-6130
Brother scanners are less expensive.
• Brother DCP-8060
• Brother DCP-8080
• Brother DCP-8150
Generally, scanners that have the following requirements work:
• USB (preferred)
• TWAIN driver
• Windows 7 or higher
• Feed tray with capacity of 50 pages or more will work
Meeting these requirements is not a guarantee. You should ALWAYS TEST scanners before acquiring and/or setting up more.
*Please note that a LAN-connected scanner will not work with IO Scan.
Scanner maintenance:
It is imperative that your district ensures all scanners are functioning, cleaned, and maintained, specifically the scanning feed tray rollers and the scanning glass/window. No matter how great the IO Scan and IO Assessment work together, a gummed-up scanner will lead to user frustration in a hurry.
The IO Scan Scanning Software can be downloaded here:

Please do not hesitate to contact our Support Team if you have any questions at support@eadms.com.
New Installation:
Before installing the IO Scan software, please ensure the TWAIN scanning driver that comes with your scanner is installed properly.
A. To launch the installation, double-click on the link above for the IOScan.msi. IO SCAN Scanning Studio requires the .NET Framework 3.5 to be installed on the PC. If the installation program detects that the Framework is missing, it will display the following notice. This part of the installation goes out to Microsoft’s web-site, downloads .NET Framework 3.5 files, and then installs them before continuing. The
Framework can take from 5 to 20 minutes to install, depending on your network speed.
B. Click on the Accept button to begin the installation of the Framework. Your PC may want to reboot after installing the framework. If so, allow the reboot and then restart the IO Scan installation. If the .NET Framework 3.5 is already installed, or once the Framework installation completes, the IO Scan Install Shield Wizard is displayed.
C. Click on the Next > button to continue.
The License Agreement is displayed next:
D. Read through the agreement and click on the I Accept the terms in the license agreement button. If you do not agree with the terms of the license, then click on the I do not accept the terms in the license agreement button, then click Next and installation will automatically terminate.
E. Click on the Next > button to continue. The next screen lets you select the Installation Folder. It is best to just accept the default location displayed under Program Files (x86), but if you need to locate the executable files somewhere else, click on the Change button and enter the location or browse to it.
F. Click on the Next > button to continue.
The next screen allows you one last chance to change your mind about the settings you chose before completing the installation.
G. Click on the Install button to complete the installation.
H. When the installation is complete, click on the Finish button to finish.
I. Double-click the IO Scan icon on desktop to open
the IO Scan software.
J. Log in using your EADMS or IO Education credentials.
K. Go to File menu > Set Scanner and verify the TW or TWAIN driver is selected.
L. Print a copy of the last page of this PDF that you are reading (test answer
sheets) and place in the scanner feed tray. IMPORTANT: make sure your PDF
viewer software does not Fit, Shrink, or Scale when printing.
M. Click the Scan button. Both scan sheets should scan through. The Editor screen
should popup.
N. Click OK on both prompts. Then the below screen should popup. Verify there are 2 records by clicking the Next button. The 2 small pop-up error prompts and the big red X on this screen indicate there are no matching Student or Test IDs in your database for these sheets but this indicates the scanning software is working correctly and communicating with EADMS and IO Assessment.
O. Click Exit button. Close IO Scan. Installation/setup has been tested and is successful!
Upgrading IO Scan
When an upgrade is sent to you, it will be identified as either a Major upgrade or a Minor upgrade.
